#DidoAndAeneas
Even though Henry Purcell's opera, Dido and Aeneas, was first written and performed over three-hundred years ago, we believe that this opera can tell a powerful story that will resonate with contemporary audiences. In our retelling, Dido finds herself the target of social and cyber bullying after an impulsive affair with her long-time crush, Aeneas. You are invited to join Dido and her friends for food and drinks at Cafe Deux Soleils in Vancouver, BC and immerse yourself in this interactive performance that explores the ways bullying can manifest and the destructive effects it has on its victims.
This performance is a collaboration between Opera After Hours, Stop A Bully, Jewelry + Artists + Collaboration, and Cafe Deux Soleils. Music by: Henry Purcell (1656 - 1695) Script by: Christopher Bagan & Debi Wong Music Director: Christopher Bagan Stage Director: Tyler Simpson Jewelers: Jewelry + Artists + Collaboration (Patsy Kay Kolesar, Simone Richmond, Su Foster)
Opera After Hours is a new Canadian opera company that presents historical opera in unusual ways. Our mission is to create and present performances that build bridges between the baroque and the contemporary; the artist and the audience; the imaginary and the real. We value innovation, risk taking, flexibility, artistic intuition, interdisciplinary collaboration, experimentation and artistic excellence.
