Presenting the US Premiere of REVOLUTION ACTS, Oakland, a theater piece written and performed by young people in Oakland, CA and in Bristol, England.
This is The Applied Theater Action Institute's International Youth Theater Project: Based on an issue the youth chose, we make a theater piece which raises concerns and plays out possible solutions. Working with a sister group abroad, the young people use digital media to communicate and share ideas as they work on their scripts. This play is about the violence in our community, and what to do about it.
This January saw young people at the Old Vic Theater in Bristol, England, working with emerging new media technology to share with youth in Oakland at Castlemont HIgh School and Youth Uprising. Together, they devised their own original show, using writing and audio from each other's groups to create the full piece. With poetry, original rap, movement, and theater we look at the issue of violence from many angles. With your help, we make choices about how to move forward. What should we do to solve this endemic issue? We decide here. Be part of the solution and get to know your community, hyper-locally and internationally! Support our young people in making real change. We can't wait to see you there.
