SACRA/PROFANA, San Diego's leading professional Chamber Choir, is sponsoring the first annual Summer Choral Intensive for high school students in July 2014. On Saturday evening, July 19th at 7pm, students representing 23 different high schools county-wide will perform repertoire that they have rehearsed at the week-long institute held at the University of San Diego. The Summer Choral Intensive Choir, under the direction of SACRA/PROFANA Artistic Director Krishan Oberoi, will perform a wide variety of genres, including the premiere of a new choral work written specifically for the program by a living composer. SACRA/PROFANA will also perform, both alone and in tandem with the SCI Choir. The recipient of the SACRA/PROFANA Scholarship will be publicly announced and honored at the concert.
The Summer Choral Intensive aims to equip students entering grade 10 through high school graduates of 2014 with an extra-curricular choral experience that encourages their passion for the arts. Students involved in the program will rehearse and perform challenging choral repertoire, attend music theory class, hear from guest speakers such as local professors and professional musicians, and benefit from group sectionals with a SACRA/PROFANA member of their specific voice type.
The most important aspect of the program lies in supplementing in-school choral programs by giving their students an educational experience over the summer. By gathering the most passionate students from various public school programs, the Sound/Project Staff aims to send students back to school with the knowledge and experience to become musical and social leaders in their school programs. We invite you to come and support music education in the schools by attending this promising event.
