Terrace Gardening at Brooklyn Grange
Whether green acres are the place for you, or you're more comfortable on Park Avenue, everyone can use a little vegetation in their life! We city dwellers have pretty limited square footage on which to make our green dream a reality, but with our crash course in terrace gardening, you'll learn to grow what you can, where you can! From backyards filled with questionable soil, to windy, shady fire escapes to rooftops fried by neighboring glass curtain buildings, master gardener and graduate of the Professional School of Horticulture at the NY Botanical Garden, Mike Di Tota, can help you get that taste of the countryside!
In this class, you'll learn to:
- use perennial and native plants in your design!
- select plants that will thrive on windy terraces!
- pick the right plant for the right place!
- design ecologically harmonious crop mixes that will delight your eyes and palate alike!
The course will take place both in a classroom and up on the farm. A great introduction for aspiring city farmers and gardeners! Take-home handouts geared towards a variety of different set-ups will provide you with the resources you need to dive in and get your hands dirty!
This event will take place rain or shine. Tickets are non-refundable.
