May 16 - Birding and Paddling on the Tualatin River
99W & Hazelbrook Rd Canoe Access Tualatin, OR
Bird life is most active on the Tualatin River in the Spring. On this trip you will hear the melodious black-headed grossbeak, watch several species of swallows doing acrobatics above the river and witness the majesty of great blue herons. Beginners and experts are both welcome on this trip. Trip fees are $5/person for members and $10/person for nonmembers. You can rent a canoe from Tualatin Riverkeepers for $30 (free for members). There is a small service fee of 99 cents + 2.5% for tickets.
Note: Directions to Put-in Site:
99W Bridge & Hazelbrook Rd., Tualatin (RM 11.5 RB)
From 99W turn south onto 124th. Turn east onto Tualatin
Road. Turn north onto SW 115th Avenue. Turn left (west)
onto Hazelbrook Road. There are four parking spots at the
put-in. No restroom. More parking at Hazelbrook Middle
School, two blocks east. This was the historical site of
Taylors Ferry. Pilings from an old wooden covered bridge
are still in the river here.
