Walk through History: Ringwood Manor
The Historical Society of Rockland County invites you to join us for a behind-the-scenes tour of the newly restored and refurbished Ringwood Manor in Ringwood, NJ, a cradle of the early American ironmaking industry.

When: July 12, 2014, 9:45 am - 12 pm

Where: Ringwood Manor State Park, Ringwood, NJ, with an option to continue on to Long Pond Ironworks State Park, Hewitt, NJ

Cost: $FREE for the walk, but bring $3 for museum admission to Ringwood Manor and $7 (per car) parking fee

The Ramapo Mountains' rich magnetite iron deposits made the area a major iron supplier, and Ringwood became the home to a succession of ironmasters for over two hundred years. During the Gilded Age, Ringwood Manor became a large summer estate for partners Peter Cooper and Abram S. Hewitt and their families.

With original historical structures, gardens, and landscapes on 582 acres and extensive historical collections illustrative of family life, community, industry and culture, Ringwood Manor is a unique repository of American history.

The manor tour will be led by Ringwood Resource Specialist Susan Shutte and her curatorial team. After the tour, we will have the chance to explore the Ringwood gardens and grounds.

Bring a bag lunch to eat one of the scenic picnic areas along the Ringwood River.

Those who are interested in exploring further may proceed three miles to Long Pond Ironworks State Park to view the museum and take a walking tour of the historic ironworkers' village led by HSRC Executive Director Susan Deeks.

Directions and further details are available upon registration for this free program.
