FRENCH HORN REBELLION w/ HOLLOW & AKIMBO
French Horn Rebellion are Robert and David Perlick-Molinari, two brothers born and bred in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, currently residing in Brooklyn, NY. In 2007, younger brother Robert was playing French horn in the Chicago Civic Orchestra, and decided to make hot beats instead. After telling the conductor that Mahler isn't fun anymore he asked his bassoon-toting brother, David, to join with him. And so it was - a French Horn Rebellion began.
Since then, the boys have traveled five continents with French horn slung over their back, doing shows with MGMT, Yelle, Cut Copy, and others along the way. Also, they've pioneered a new genre called 'Next Jack Swing,' like New Jack, but with heavy beats and funkier bass lines.
Joining them is Hollow & Akimbo of Ann Arbor, MI. Jon Visger and Brian Konicek first met as teenagers, bonding over a shared fascination with strange sounds and old tape machines. They recorded in basements and bedrooms, attics and closets, amassing an ever-evolving archive of song fragments and noisy four track experiments.
With the eventual addition of Mike Higgins on drums, Hollow & Akimbo is a continuation of that restless creative spirit. It is the culmination of years spent writing together. Each song is its own peculiar construction; a special blend of looped rhythms and intricate electronic arrangements, of Konicek's wiry guitar textures, Higgins' infectious drumming, and Visger's dreamy, often melancholic, vocal melodies.
