Denver Early Music Consort - From Solomon's Court to the Ends of the Earth: Songs of the Sephardim
Denver Early Music Consort April 26 & 27, 2014 From Solomon's Court to the Ends of the Earth: Songs of the Sephardim Yayoi Barrack, Guest Artistic Director with Danse Etoile Ballet, Marie-Jose Payannet, Choreographer
The Sephardic song tradition dates to Medieval Spain. As the Sephardic Jews emigrated, these songs traveled to places like Morocco, the Balkans, Greece, Turkey, Israel, & Mexico, where they are still sung today - sometimes very close to the original, sometimes with changed text or tune. Join DEMC on a journey spanning 500 years around the world as we explore how the songs of the Sephardim have evolved through time and place. Amanda Balestrieri, soprano; Yayoi Barrack, viol & vielle; Marjorie Bunday, contralto; Eric Harbeson, percussion; Linda Lunbeck, recorder; Carla Sciaky, viol and rebec.
