Scott Laurent started playing clubs in Minneapolis while still in high school. One of the first shows he played was an acoustic show at the Uptown bar, where he shared the stage with Gary Louris (Jayhawks), Martin Zellar (Gear Daddies), and members of Run Westy Run. According to Scott, "That was an incredible time in my life! A lot of good things started happening for me after that show." Laurent signed his first record deal when he was twenty-two. Four records later, he is back with his new release, "Love Don't Let Me Down"- recorded and produced at Hilson Studios in Nashville with Brooklyn native, Sean Power.
"Nashville has been great. I've been able to work with songwriters who's names I used to read in the liner notes of my favorite records, grammy winners, major label recording artists, as well as a lot of people you probably haven't heard of yet. Nashville is not just a country music town. Infact, the music scene down here reminds me of Minneapolis."
This album will NOT leave you weary. "Love Don't Let Me Down" has a strong country soul, but with a definite rock undercurrent. - Becca Martin (Riftmagazine)
Scott Laurent brings new-found southern influence to the stage with unapologetic country gruff and vigor. Folk is an oversimplification that may lead many to be surprised by the complexities of his performance. - Jed Johnson (Curious North)
Two nights at the Icehouse, vastly different shows. Saturday night will present a complete performance of the new record, and songs off Laurent's last release, "The Truth Is Lies" - produced by Ed Ackerson. Sunday night will be more of an intimate vibe, Scott says, "stripped down and countryfied." Two totally different bands, two nights, special guests to be announced.
Pennyroyal
"Genre-bending, harmonica player-having, blond mohawked singer-led Pennyroyal will leave listeners completely sated. Like a highly evolved, adaptive beast of music, Pennyroyal puts a glam spin on the rock 'n' blues sound other bands are circling in on today. Listen to "Minot" and you'll detect an almost terrifying genius powering lead singer Angie Oase's at once ethereal and guttural vocals. Set against the landscape of a steady bass line and pitch perfect guitar hooks, Oase leads the charge onto the gates of musical heaven. Chart this territory on a map and you'll end up somewhere between The Clash, Neko Case, and the Alabama Shakes with a glam sheen. Perfectly balanced."
