Workshops / Descriptions / Instructor Info:

Christopher Willits - "The Creative Process"

In this workshop I will introduce ideas I cover in a longer course of the same name. We will explore how to flow from an idea in your imagination to the manifestation of that idea, moving through intention to completion. We will talk about creating what you love, through your love, discipline, and devotion. No musical or artistic knowledge or practice is required to gain inspiration and insight from this workshop.

Christopher Willits is a multimedia artist  an electronic music and guitar pioneer, composer, producer, photographer, filmmaker and system designer. Named "the Picasso of sound" (Tokafi), Christopher uses his self-designed software tools to "paint with his guitar" (Pitchfork), creating "mesmerizing, intricate electronic soundscapes" (Nowness) and lush audiovisual performances of weaving patterns, texture, and harmony. Willits creates immersive experiences of overlapping sound and light. Working solo and in collaboration with the likes of Ryuichi Sakamoto, Matmos, Zach Hill (Hella/Death Grips), and Taylor Deupree, Christopher has released over 20 albums within the last decade. Willits is based in San Francisco and has a master's degree in electronic music from Mills College. In addition he instructs graduate classes at California College of the Arts and Goucher College.

Silvia Nakkach - "The Voices of the Voice"

This workshop is about extended vocal techniques, the art of sound expression, Silvia's "Tone Magic", and music improvisation applied to composition, recording, and sound in healing.  An innovative approach to overcoming recording and performance anxiety will also be a focus in this session. Silvia teaches a graceful practice of impermanence leading to spiritual and creative autonomy. The voice as an instrument is the primary tool in this workshop, please feel free to bring other musical instruments along with you.

Silvia Nakkach, MA, MMT, is a pioneer in the field of sound, transformation of consciousness and music shamanism. She is an award-winning composer, an author, a voice-culturist, and a former psychologist in Argentina. As a recording artist she has released six CD-albums. She is the founding director of The Vox Mundi School, an international project devoted to teaching and preserving indigenous musical traditions and combining music, service and spiritual practice. She has contributed an extensive body of therapeutic vocal techniques that have become landmarks in the fields of sound healing and cross-cultural music therapy training. She presents internationally at universities, medical and music and sound therapy conferences and facilitates ongoing international training programs. Nakkach was selected by Utne Reader as being one of 40 international artists who will shake the art world.
