Letterpress Workshop 10am-12pm Caitlin

Pressure Printing  12-2:30pm
Instructor: Alisa Walton
Location: 17 SE 3rd #507
Pressure printing is a way to quickly and easily create imagery using a flat bed
cylinder proof press. Participants will make an image using textured fabrics and
paper. Once this printing plate is created it can be printed multiple times. Everyone
will make several copies of their image to take home and if students are interested
they can exchange prints with other workshop participants. Though this workshop
does not require any printing experience, both beginners and more advance
students will find this workshop helpful.

Artist Bios: Mind Riot Libraries was founded in 2013 by Alisa Walton. She has been letterpress printing and making handbound books since graduating from Oregon College of Art & Craft where she was a Book Arts major. In addition to custom binding and letterpress printing she also teaches workshops in printmaking and bookbinding.  Her work can be found in the Museum of Contemporary Craft's gallery store.

Transfer Printmaking  3-6pm
Location: IPRC (1001 SE Division)
Instructors: Carye Bye and Shannon Buck
Learn six transfer techniques with a unique variety of results using common household items and art supplies (without the use of specialty transfer papers). Techniques are inspired by artists such as Andy Warhol, Paul Klee, and Robert Rauchenberg.  Methods include heat and solvent transfers, Ink-blotting, oil crayon, and basic outline transfers. The workshop is taught by two local artists and printmakers. Please bring a $5 materials fee the day of class.

Artist Bios:
Carye Bye is artist and designer with Red Bat Press and an author and illustrator of Hidden Portland guides. She enjoys museums, thrift stores, art history, making stuff and is an avid bicyclist and explorer.

Shannon Buck has been a printmaker for a decade now. Mostly she carves linoleum and prints in small batches by hand and with a tabletop letterpress under the name loaded hips press. She loves yummy ink the color of candy and her studio is 60s girl-group-powered.

Beyond Stapling  4-6:30pm
Location: IPRC (1001 SE Division)
Instructor: Alisa Walton
We'll look at some simple bindings you can do that aren't much more complicated than a stapled binding. We'll discuss the little things that can give your book a more finished and polished appearance. You'll be shown different ways to add a title label, how to create inserts and windows, and simple ways to add a cover to your book. Paper choices will also be covered, you'll find out which papers are most appropriate for various projects. Students are welcome to bring bindings they have made in the past in order to trouble shoot problems or to figure out how they can enhance the work they've already done.
