THE OCHRE HOUSE is delighted to present its upcoming original comedy, THE PASSING SHOW, written and directed by Matthew Posey. THE PASSING SHOW tips its hat to the highly influential stand up comedian, vaudevillian performer, philosopher, musician, and 1950's icon, Lord R.M. Buckley. Lord Buckley, also known as the Professor of Hipology or His Hipness, was made famous for re-interpreting the classics into "Hip" or "Jive" talk which he called "Hipsemantics". Among his reinterpreted classics were Shakespeare plays and the stories of Edgar Allen Poe.
In THE PASSING SHOW, LORD BUCKLEY (BEN BRYANT) will lay down the groove of THE TRAGEDY OF KING LEAR in Hipsemantic. It is a hilarious and often profound romp through Shakespeare's classic, where we use the vaudevillian techniques of Lord Buckley and a two-piece jazz band (JUSTIN LOCKLEAR, TREY PENDERGRASS) that will back up Lord Buckley as he performs his word ballet. Dance, song, quick-change artistry and fascinating banter styled after Lord Buckley will round out this great evening of entertainment.
