Messiah
First Free Methodist Church Seattle, WA
Orchestra Seattle and the Seattle Chamber Singers' performance of "Messiah" has become a beloved Seattle tradition for those who seek out an interpretation of the work that is consonant with its religious significance while portraying the full dramatic intent of Handel, who was first a composer for the theater. Our performance features two harpsichords, with maestro George Shangrow conducting from one while Robert Kechley plays continuo on the other. This is a complete performance of the original 1742 Dublin version, using the original instrumentation. Shangrow bases his musical ideas on studies of a facsimile of the full score that Handel used when he conducted the work in the later years of his life.
