| Description |
Join Orchestra Seattle and the Seattle Chamber Singers for a moving evening of J. S. Bach's cantatas. The elements of poetry and psalm, choral and solo voices and brilliant writing for the orchestra are combined in an emotional expression of Bach's faith in God. Cantatas 131 and 38 are connected by their text, Psalm 130, De profundis clamavi ad te Domine, "Out of the depths, I cried to you, Lord!" as is Cantata 150, "For Thee, Lord is my desire" in which the speaker begs God to lead him through great suffering. "A Mighty Fortress is Our God", Cantata 80, is a confident statement of God's ability to protect us from evil and misfortune.
