Filipino Arts Relief Fund & Benefit
Co-owner Erwin Arceo of The Belltown Pub and Pacific Lutheran University Professor Bea Geller, will be turning the popular downtown restaurant into an intimate gallery featuring 30 artists and their original work at a collaborative exhibit to be held on Thursday, March 20. "Filipino Arts Relief Fund & Benefit" will spotlight the hand-signed pieces of former PLU photographic art students and internationally known alumni from 5:00 to 9:00pm. During the colorful reception, guests will enjoy tastes from an array of Filipino cuisine, drinks, entertainment and the opportunity to network with the artists, whose donated pieces will be available for purchase. Proceeds from the event will benefit Typhoon Haiyan survivors.
Geller artist photographer/professor at Pacific Lutheran University and Arceo - culinary artist/ photographer and restaurateur, have a professional relationship that dates back 25 years. The well-known teacher and her former student are excited to share their mutual love for art, food, wine and music while raising funds for a cause that both are passionate about.
"Some of Bea's former students that will be involved, have extremely impressive resumes," says Erwin. "We have art from alumni that have worked with major motion pictures such as Lord of the Rings and True Grit; from someone that is a past recipient of the Sundance Film Festival Award; from a filmmaker in Denmark; New York restaurateurs; an artist that works with Dale Chihuly; pieces coming from places as far away as Japan; and much more. Needless to say, we are going to have some damn good talent on our walls from emerging and established artists!"
The original 11" x 14" matted and framed photographs (16" x 20" finished size) will be for sale priced from $100 to $500, with 100% of the sale proceeds going to the Typhoon Haiyan relief fund. Event tickets are available for $20 per person (with 50% going towards the relief fund), and can be pre-purchased through Brown Paper Tickets. A limited number of tickets will be available for sale at the door, the night of the event. Included in the entrance fee are tastes of a Filipino tribute menu such as Lumpia, Grilled Tocino, Chicken Adobo, New York Steak Pancit Palabot and Leche Flan along with two free drinks (beer and wine).
Although Typhoon Haiyan may have disappeared from the daily news over the last four months, survivors needs continue to grow. One of the most powerful storms on record to hit the Eastern seaboard of the Philippines, the November 2013 tropical cyclone badly affected the town of Tacloban on Leyte Island. Over 6,000 were killed with 2,000 still missing (bodies are being found daily) and 4 million displaced.
