Immaculate Degeneration: A Rock-n-Roll Cabaret
Immaculate Degeneration

Immaculate Degeneration is a rock-n-roll one-woman cabaret about what it is to move through the world with an invisible disability. When a rebellious teen becomes vision impaired  leaving her unable to drive in the Motor City  she must set forth on a quest to find out just what it is to be not quite blind but no longer fully sighted. Composed from a collection of personal stories and original songs written by playwright and performer Pamela Sabaugh, Immaculate Degeneration is a humorous and uplifting coming-of-age journey that confronts issues of identity, independence, and the ongoing attempt to come to terms with and articulate just what it is to be somewhere "In Between."

"Immaculate Degeneration, Sabaugh's fine and moving one-woman show at FringeNYC, is mind-expanding, actually; it really does let us walk in someone else's shoes for a while, conveying vividly and viscerally, with great intelligence, compassion, and warmth, what it's like to be differently-abled from most people. Go see Sabaugh perform it, beautifully and thoughtfully, under the precise direction of Fred Backus. Your perspective on many areas of life that you don't often think about will undoubtedly be shifted."
-Martin Denton, NYTheatre.com

"This is a show of hope. A show of not taking things for granted and watching, and listening, to this tremendous woman's story of fighting adversity and coming out looking like a million bucks. Under the wise direction of Fred Backus, Sabaugh (who reminds one of Juliette Binoche almost immediately) weaves in and out of clever and truly funny tales of her journey from Detroit to the island of Manhattan. Her songs are poetic and lively. The characters she draws are vivid and real; as are all of the unique voices she gives them (Sabaugh is, after all, a very gifted actress). It's simply a show that needs to be seen."
-The ArtsWire

"Sabaugh's story, like all deeply personal stories worth telling, is bigger than herself. this is a joyful piece of work. Sabaugh is a delightful person to spend 90 minutes with. Immaculate Degeneration hits that really difficult balance of being both really tight yet being loose and casual enough that you feel a part of the event in a really nice way."
-Caviglia's Cabinet of Curiosities

"Her polished and wide-ranging piece calls for her to tap into an entire range of emotional colors, all of which she hits with skill and confidence. Her songs are terrific (and even a little punky, despite the fact that she's rocking an acoustic guitar), her voice is pretty, and her lyrics are clever."
