Mocktar, a Nigerien peasant, comes looking for work in Essakane, a dusty gold mine in Northeast Burkina Faso, Africa, where he hopes to forget the past that haunts him. In Essakane, he quickly finds out, the gold rush ended twenty years before, and the inhabitants of this wasteland and strange timelessness manage to exist simply from force of habit. The beautiful Coumba, however, is still courageously struggling to raise her daughter after the death of her family. Mocktar will soon be fighting not only to survive, but also to provide a better future for this mother and her child."

SJFS Cinema Room is a unique exhibition partnership between the San Joaquin Film Society and Cibo di Vino Restaurant - Matine Movie Lounge, to year-round global cinema film programs and special events within the intimate settings of the Matine Movie Lounge. SJFS presents a richly-diverse collection of films, special screenings, shorts collections, guest filmmakers, mixed-media showcases, and creative discussions. Ticket prices vary depending on show.

ABOUT SAN JOAQUIN FILM SOCIETY

The new San Joaquin Film Society, Inc., (SJFS) is the home of the San Joaquin International Film Festival, California Central Valley's preeminent celebration of global cinema. For 2009, in addition to the international film festival in May, SJFS launched an ambitious year of events that includes the 1st San Joaquin Children's Film Festival in January, the 1st California International Documentary Film Festival in the Fall, the year-round Cinema Room film programs, Cinema Italia series in February, the 1st San Joaquin Jewish Film Festival in June, special events, and educational programs. SJFS is dedicated to celebrating the artistry, diversity, and power of filmmaking; and to bringing the world's best cinema to the culturally-rich, Valley communities.

Note: - Please be advised that rain or shine, and without exception, all ticket sales are final and no refunds or exchanges will be made.

- Tickets are non-transferable and non-replaceable.

- If lost, stolen or destroyed, Passes and Tickets will not be replaced.

- Tickets may be redeemed at Will-Call upon entry into the Cinema Room, from 30 minutes before the show starts. You must present your photo ID to redeem your ticket. Orders for multiple tickets must be redeemed by the person who placed the order.

- When advance tickets are no longer available, a limited number of rush tickets may be available at the door. Rush tickets are available on a first-come-first-served basis depending on how many seats are available after pass holders and advance ticket holders are admitted. Rush tickets are normally sold 10 minutes prior to the screening. Rush Tickets are not discounted. There are no day-of-show discounts.

- The San Joaquin Film Society reserves the right to refuse admission to, and/or remove from any screening, panel or party, anyone whose actions are deemed troublesome and/or dangerous to other festival attendees, guests, volunteers or staff.

- Discounted tickets for seniors, students, or disabled persons are only available at door.
