Hurston Wright Fundraiser for the Teen Writing Initiative
On Friday, March 28, from 7-9 p.m., the Hurston-Wright Foundation will hold a wine and dessert fundraiser to benefit Hurston Wright Teen Writing Initiative at the LeRoy Neiman Art Center, 2785 Frederick Douglass Blvd, New York, NY 10039. Award-winning writer Marita Golden, author of Migrations of the Heart, Saving Our Sons: Raising Black Children in a Turbulent World, and Don't Play in the Sun One Woman's Journey Through the Color Complex, along with several other books, will host the event and read from her work. Harlem-based writers will also share their work.
Since 1990, the Hurston Wright Foundation has nurtured the careers of emerging African-American writers and celebrated established literary stars. The Foundation's scholarship program for its Teen Writing Workshops allow young people to take a free writing class and develop their writing and critical thinking skills.
There will be refreshments and networking prior to the reading. There will also be literary-themed giveaways and a chance to win a subscription to Mosaic literary magazine.
Tickets can be purchased here at Brown Paper Tickets for a suggested donation of $25; you can also make donations at the door.
This event is sponsored in part by the LeRoy Neiman Art Center and the Harlem Works Collective.
