Viva La Lehrer!
Out of the abundance of caution, this show is rated "PG13." If you are under 13 or are easily aghast at subversive humor, or mayhem put to rhyme, you absolutely must bring a parent or guardian. Call 831-423-3607 for full details.
Santa Cruz will celebrate the life, humor and music of Tom Lehrer on the occasion of his 86th birthday (though he is known to prefer the Celsius scale.) One dozen acts, 18 individual performers promising the biggest, most comprehensive retrospective of Lehrer's unusual blend of academic satire, sardonic humor, and jolly vitriol since the Broadway musical Tom Foolery in the 1980's. Proceeds will benefit the non-profit Homeless Services Center.
Currently a Professor Emeritus at the University of California Santa Cruz, Mr. Lehrer has given permission to perform his songs, but does not sanction the event, nor is he expected to participate in it.
