It's Only Make Believe
Prologue: During a break-in Jenny tells her boyfriend Frank, a juvenile criminal, that she is pregnant. Frank is overjoyed and proposes to her on the spot. The break-in is a disaster: instead of a small bag of hashish, they find a several kilos of heroin, and they are caught in a chaotic gunfight. In the confusion Jenny shoots two people. One of them is Frank. Many years later Jenny is released from prison, and starts work as a cleaning lady. Her daughter, Merete, now ten years old, has lived with foster parents all her life. Merete and Jenny start spending time together, and the chemistry between them is good. Merete expresses a desire to spend more time with Jenny, and dances a special dance for her. Jenny wants her child back in her life. The foster parents and child services are reluctant, and feel that Jenny is unfit to have a child living with her. Jenny takes control of her life, and starts refurbishing her apartment. It turns out great, and more importantly: Merete loves it. It turns out that the apartment is mired in old debts. Gary, the banker, helps her organize her finances. He has a sweet spot for Jenny.A gang of criminals who lost a lot of money because of Jenny kidnap her and try to make her start selling drugs for them. Jenny contacts Ådne. He was involved in the break-in that landed Jenny in prison, but she did not rat him out, and now he owes her a favor. He offers to help her unload the drugs, but ends up knocking her out and stealing them from her instead. When she finds him, she witnesses that the same criminals who are threatening to kill her are involved with Ådne.Gary tells Jenny he is in love with her, but she is unwilling to let him into her chaotic life. She brings him to the hospital where it turns out Frank is alive, but a vegetable. While they are at the hospital the phone rings, Merete hasn't't come home from school. It turns out the criminals have taken her for a ride in their car, to scare Jenny into submission. On their way home from delivering Merete back to her foster parents, the criminals turn up in a car following Gary and Jenny. When Gary stops and confronts them, they break his hand in the car door. Jenny is fed up with the criminals and their actions, and gets a gun, finds out where they are and confronts them. They manage to get the gun away from her, and Jenny barely escapes them. After a chase through the forest she arrives at a beach and finds herself face to face with the lead gangster. He is just about to strangle her when she gets hold of a rock and manages to get the upper hand. Jenny kills him. She understands that her dream of getting her family back together will never happen.Epilogue: After serving a short sentence for murder in self-defense, Jenny is once again released from prison. She meets up with Frank and Merete and Merete dances for them. Jenny has accepted her fate and Frank's finger twitches as he watches their daughter dance.
