Heavy in blues but firmly in the avant-garde tradition with huge amounts of heat and energy, Engine Room Favourites are a band whose aesthetic harks back to the AACM school of music from the likes of the Art Ensemble of Chicago, Leo Smith, Anthony Braxton etc. This is a style which has never been really followed up by European musicians, nevertheless it remains the model for Archer's contributions to jazz based music.
An all star band made up of bandleaders and composers in their own right expect large textural layers, lots of percussion and blues rooted within the avant-guarde.
