What do they all have in common? They all eat at the Lower East Side lox emporium Russ and Daughters, now in its fourth generation under management by the same family.
Russ' daughters, for whom the store is named, now 100 and 92, reminiscence about their earliest days at the store. A grandson, a trial lawyer with a major firm gave up his practice to take over the business.
Now, 1,800,000 pounds of pickled herring and 100 years later, the 4th generation of Russ descendants are in the business.
