The playwright, Samm Art Williams, writes from a truly personal and experienced  perspective. His inspiration for this story stems from him being a young man in New York City,  to  broke to get back Home for Christmas. He decides to put pen to paper and ease his homesickness. He decided to write about his fond memories of his childhood, on the farm and the happy memories of growing up in the country.  He paints  a colorful picture of the  journey of a young black man's life in the 50's, during the Anti-Vietnam war period and the sharp contrast of  southern living vs.. northern survival during that time period. This story, like most Of Williams plays, are filled with historical and personal accounts of life for black people.
