Black Water
Seattle Center House Theatre Seattle, WA
Off-Center Opera presents the West Coast Premiere of John Duffy and Joyce Carol Oates' opera Black Water. In addition to being the first staging of this opera on the West Coast, John Duffy is preparing a new chamber orchestration expressly for this production.
Black Water is the gripping story of a young woman, trapped in the wrecked remains of the car of a U.S. Senator, who escapes and leaves her to drown. Set to melodic, distinctively American music, this opera presents a riveting portrayal of this chilling true-life tragedy as imagined by two giants of American arts and letters.
Performances run August 12 through 27 on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets are $22 for general admission, $17 for students and seniors. All peformances are at 7:30pm at the Seattle Center House Theatre. The theatre is located in the lower level of the Center House at the Seattle Center.
The role of Kelly is double cast with Karen Burlingame (August 12, 17, 20, 27) and Kimberly Giordano (August 13, 19, 24, 26).
