TOP GUN!! LIVE, ABRIDGED AND COMPLETELY UNDERFUNDED
You find yourself anticipating a stage rendition of the iconic movie Top Gun what images appear in your mind's eye? Perhaps your thoughts would drift to buff, military hunks a-glistening with manly perspiration-beaded foreheads--as they maniacally maneuver metal machines through the sky with precision skill that simply takes your breath away (sorry, couldn't resist!)? Well, simmer down...this isn't THAT sort of production. Replace aforementioned beefcake with googley-eyed molting, motley puppets gliding several feet off the ground--and you would be in attendance at Mesa Encore Theatre and the All Puppet Players' production of Top Gun: Live, Abridged, and Completely Underfunded.
Armed (get it...armed?) with a Tom Cruise puppet and his "wing" man Goose (actually played by a goose) and boasting a set and props budget that is 150,000 times smaller than the original film, this show is set to be the "best of the best"...in a funny, underfunded "fly-boy in felt" sort of way, that is.
"Top Gun: Live, Abridged, and Completely Underfunded is homage not just to the Tom Cruise flick, but to all iconic movies of the 80's. Top Gun gets its fair ribbing, but there are a ton of 80's shout-outs from The Karate Kid, ET, Goonies, to The Princess Bride. Think of this show as a love letter to all famous 80's movies--a very cheap and lascivious love letter boarding on insult."
WARNING...puppets can be unpredictable by nature...so if you are of a sensitive nature or are easily offended, they don't care. For Audiences 16 and up!
