Sage Hill School's Annual Multicultural Fair
Sage Hill School will open its campus to the community for a day of food and festivity at the Annual Multicultural Fair on Saturday, March 22, 2014. Between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., the Newport Coast hillside will transform into a global village as an expected 1,000+ visitors enjoy two dozen authentic international food booths, an art gallery, lively cultural entertainment, an ethnic bazaar, a marketplace featuring student-led philanthropy, and hands-on activities for all ages.
Visitors can stroll along the plaza of international food booths, where freshly prepared tastings from India, Japan, Korea, Vietnam, China and Persia will tempt fair-goers alongside delicacies from Germany, France, Greece, Israel, Spain and Mexico. Try something new from El Salvador or enjoy the flavors of England and America before heading to the "Desserts Around the World" booth inspired by far away lands such as Ghana and New Zealand. Also among the delicious food options will be specialties from the restaurant kitchens of Romeo Cucina and Sapphire Laguna.
In the "World's Playground", the young and the old will be welcomed by our very own high school students and treated to new experiences that stimulate all of the senses. You will smell the aroma of freshly baked bread spread with homemade, melted golden butter and can learn the skill of bread baking and butter churning yourself. Try the Japanese art of origami paper folding, test your balance while being in a bubble roller or jumping in the bounce house. Listen to stories from around the world in our "Story Telling Tent" or try your hand at woodworking, fiber work, springtime sewing and wet felting Easter eggs. Sit back and get a decorative henna painting and for some laughter, model for our caricature lady who creates amusing faces. But wait, theres more. A vibrant Ethnic Bazaar will beckon with bargain-priced treasures from the day's journey.
A visit to the Multicultural Fair is like traveling the world without leaving Orange County. The sights, smells, sounds, and tastes of the continents will delight the senses. This global tour features continuous entertainment with the exciting rhythms of international music and dance. Take in the fascinating traditions and fashions from across the globe as well as America's own culture and heritage. Student and faculty performances include: *Dancers and music from Hawaii, China, Spain, India, Persia, and Korea as well as the Sage Hill Dance Ensemble
*Culturally authentic instrumental arrangements from our Jazz Band and drummers from Korea
*Vocalists ranging from groups such as our Encore Choir to amazing solo artists singing everything from pop to opera
Admission to the fair is $5 at the door with children 5 and under admitted free. Food tickets, sold on site, are $1. A portion of the proceeds benefit Sage Hill School's Financial Aid Endowment Fund.
Overflow parking is available at Mariners Church. Look for signs leading to lots off Turtle Ridge and then take the free shuttle bus over to the Sage Hill School campus.
