The Sunlight Zone

The Sunlight Zone promotes the idea of a water conscious society. In highly urbanized cities, littered with paved roads, scattered parks and an increasingly built-up environment we typically give very little thought to the fact that we live in a watershed. The inspiration for this piece started with a simple desire: to jump in the water at Sunnyside Beach, on a sweltering hot summer day. Posted signs however read Beach Closed. This sparked a desire to research why the local community is being deprived of the opportunity to use and connect with this living public space. Through daring acrobatics and dance, this project will bring attention to the hydrologic web, with water being the life-giving connecting thread.

The Sunlight Zone brings together three world-renowned aerial artists trained with Cirque de Soliel, New York Tisch dancer Anna Flecha, video artist Fabio Flecha, and singer Jesse Ross.
