Ge Wang: Music, Computing, People
The Mathematical Sciences Research Institute, Berkeley City College, and the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing cordially invite you to attend a lecture by Dr. Ge Wang on "Music, Computing, People," which is part of the series Not on the Test: The Pleasures and Uses of Mathematics.  This lecture series is dedicated to engaging the public through speakers on mathematics whose expertise, passion, and ability to explain what they do with math can be understood by all.

The presentation will explore the transformative possibilities of combining music and computing, art and technology to connect people around the world. It will take us on a journey of software design for music, laptop and mobile phone orchestra, social music apps like Ocarina and Magic Piano, and an emerging dimension where the computer, music, and people interact.

Dr. Ge Wang is an assistant professor at Stanford University's Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics and co-founder of Smule, a major developer of music apps.  He researches programming languages and interactive software systems for computer music, mobile and social music, laptop orchestras, and education at the intersection of computer science and music.

Please note:  You must present a printed or electronic ticket at the doors to guarantee your seat in the auditorium.  Seating is limited and first come, first served.  Doors open at 6:30 pm.
