Tommy Keane and Jacqueline McCarthy, with Robbie O'Connell.
JUST ADDED: Robbie O'Connell will join Tommy and Jackie for some songs and tunes! Robbie played with Tommy Keane for a number of years in a group called, The Bread and Beer Band, and then had Tommy record several tracks on his early recording Close to the Bone, so this will be a re-union of sorts. Not to be missed.
Burren owner Tommy McCarthy comes from a large family raised in London and steeped (I mean STEEPED) in traditional music. Jacqueline is just one of them, and what a concertina player she is. Her husband Tommy Keane, is recognized as one of the great Munster style Uilleann Pipers (he is from Waterford!) and together they make great music. They also have wonderful children who in turn are remarkable and becoming well known musicians in their own right. You never know who shows up to a concert like this, so plan on a special night indeed.
The Burren Backroom series is now well established as one of the most sought-after boutique series of trad presentation in the world. It has already created already dozens of memorable, intimate, informal presentations held in a truly atmospheric space which was founded by well-known traditional musicians Tommy McCarthy and Louise Costello in Davis Square, Somerville, Massachusetts.
Hosted by Brian O'Donovan of A Celtic Sojourn on WGBH radio, these gatherings feature core performers from many aspects of traditional music as well as special guests, and conversations around the music. As is the custom of the Burren, it is anticipated informal and dynamic post concert sessions will be a feature.
Tickets are $23 in advance, with a $5 discount for WGBH Members. If you are a member, send an e-mail to celtic@wgbh.org and we will send you the code.
Seating is VERY limited and these events have been selling out, so get your tickets today!
