Through written, group, and improv exercises, this class will teach you concrete skills that will help you become a better sketch comedy writer. You will learn techniques on how to develop your ideas, clarify your premise, create characters, and understand what makes a good sketch work.
Taught by OKC Improv Instructors Kellen Hodgeson & Tim Huckeby (Friday Night Live, Remote Control, Oak City Comedy, Heel Turn, Red State Blue State).
We'll discuss a variety of sketch terms and formats, including blackout, musical, runner, commerical, parody - and emerging formats such as Vine. We'll also practice starting from an idea, script, suggestion, or an even an existing scene. Finally, we'll workshop your material onstage, concluding with our instructor team and students performing a staged reading of students' sketches. No previous sketch-writing experience required. Open to all.
Prerequisite: Any improv class will be helpful, but is not required.
Class meets from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. each Saturday (Nov. 2nd-Dec 14th).
Class enrollment is limited to 12 students.
