Description
San Francisco Bluegrass & Old-Time Festival -- Laurie & Kathy Together

Legend is not always loud. Particularly in American folk music and bluegrass, it is bestowed more by whispered word-of-mouth, over years and decades, than by the hurried hype of the pop mainstream. You cant measure Laurie Lewis's 30-year career with the usual commercial yardsticks. She has won a Grammy and twice been named Female Vocalist of the Year by the International Bluegrass Music Association. Lewis has been the first bona fide bluegrass star who was a woman born outside the music's native southland. She is a pivotal figure in transforming the music from a regional genre into a truly international musical language. Lewis's performing companion is ace mandolinist-singer Tom Rozum. Their 1996 CD, The Oak and the Laurel, was nominated for a Grammy. Lewis's stage shows are renowned for their musical virtuosity and front-porch friendliness. laurielewis.com.

Hot bluegrass and cool originals has described the music of Kathy Kallick since cofounding (with Laurie Lewis) the internationally-acclaimed band, Good Ol Persons, in 1975. Along the way, she has: toured North America, Europe and Japan; released 14 albums, including over 100 of her original songs, three of which spent a year at the top of
the charts; received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the California Bluegrass Association; won a Grammy and two IBMA Awards for her part on True Life Blues: The Songs Of Bill Monroe; and collaborated with some of the country's top acoustic musicians. The Kathy Kallick Band is anchored by Kathy's luminous, passionate vocals, exemplary guitar playing and celebrated original compositions. Shes joined in the Kathy Kallick Band by her longtime cohort, Tom Bekeny (mandolin, vocals), Dan Booth (bass, vocals) and Greg Booth (dobro). kathykallick.com
