Alicia Olatuja - On January 21, 2013, one of the most important days for the United States and free world, President Barack Obama was re-elected President of the United States. There were only three soloists selected for this important international day, two of them already major stars with world recognition. The other was Alicia Olatuja who performed as a soloist with the Grammy Award winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. Since that major honor, Ms. Olatuja has been prepping her debut Jazz album and will feature great Jazz artists such as Christian McBride, Gregoire Maret, and others. The Abyssinian Baptist Church is honored to have Ms. Olatuja in concert to experience her music which is a blend of wonderfully lyrical content that will be certain to touch the soul.
Doors open at 3:30 pm. Concert at 4:00 pm.
$20 General Admission; $10 Seniors, Students & Abyssinian Members (available on site with ID)
Abyssinian Jazz Vespers (AJV) 2014, "Celebrating In the Spirit", embraces Harlem and its rich cultural, social, and artistic legacy of Jazz. Through concert series, new and established performers are afforded a creative platform to interpret different eras and styles, while encouraging relevant musical relationships between developing, and more traditional audiences. AJV participating artists are diverse, cultural story-tellers who skillfully speak through the languages of Bebop, Swing, Afro Caribbean, Latin, Classical, Modern, and Straight Ahead.
Always uplifting and joyous, the AJV experience not only entertains its audiences, it defines Jazz as the cultural cornerstone of an international artistic, spiritual, and social community.
All are welcome to join us each month for a wonderful fellowship that "Celebrates Jazz in the Spirit."
