Music by Damon Intrabartolo Lyrics by Jon Hartmere, Jr. Book by Jon Hartmere, Jr. and Damon Intrabartolo
A group of high school seniors at a Catholic boarding school face issues of sexuality and personal identity. There's Peter, the sweet, sensitive nerd, and Jason, the deeply closeted jock, whose secret relationship with Peter blossomed during a holiday break. Jason's insecurities take a predictable path from the moment he is cast as Romeo in the school production of "Romeo and Juliet".
He is opposite Ivy, a transfer student trailed by damaging rumors of promiscuity from her previous school. Adding to the hormonal tempest is the lovelorn Matt, pining for the unattainable Ivy, and Jason's sister Nadia, a hard-edged outsider and recreational drug dealer with an improbable crush on Matt. As they struggle to come to terms with who they are, and who the world thinks they should be, they seek answers from their Church, their friends, and ultimately, from within themselves. Its rich, vibrant score draws on many styles of contemporary music.
"Bare taps into today's raised consciousness about adolescent homophobia, stigmatization and bullying. It's frequently touching and tender, scoring points for the conviction of its young cast." New York Times
