Wycliffe Gordon is an extraordinary trombonist, whose talent is multi-faceted in the areas of composition and arranging. With his soulful and virtuosic approach to the instrument he is sure to move anyone who witnesses him in action. For the Jazz Vespers program, Mr. Gordon is a perfect fit, because of his spiritual upbringing in Augusta GA, as well as working with Wynton Marsalis for many years on "In This House on This Morning" and other great recordings. Wycliffe Gordon is one of a kind, and seeing him within the context of the Abyssinian Baptist Church in Harlem, NYC will be special moment in time. This concert is sure to be a soul stirring musical journey.|

Abyssinian Jazz Vespers (AJV) 2014, "Celebrating In the Spirit", embraces Harlem and its rich cultural, social, and artistic legacy of Jazz. Through concert series, new and established performers are afforded a creative platform to interpret different eras and styles, while encouraging relevant musical relationships between developing, and more traditional audiences. AJV participating artists are diverse, cultural story-tellers who skillfully speak through the languages of Bebop, Swing, Afro Caribbean, Latin, Classical, Modern, and Straight Ahead.
Always uplifting and joyous, the AJV experience not only entertains its audiences, it defines Jazz as the cultural cornerstone of an international artistic, spiritual, and social community.
All are welcome to join us each month for a wonderful fellowship that "Celebrates Jazz in the Spirit."
