'First Thursdays' at The Independent - Jan 2 "New Years REVolution!"
The Indy is alive & 'First Thursdays' continue Jan 2 at The Independent with a 5-6pm Happy Hour followed by our 'New Years REVolution' Dinner seating at 6pm.  This month, to celebrate the New Year with an enlivening essense, and to help those in need following the Big Sur Fires, The Esalen Institute from Big Sur will be coming to town to help us kick off the New Year with a rejuvenating meal straight from the Esalen Farm + Garden!

We will be celebrating Big Sur style and are collecting donations thru ticket sales for those who lost property in the Big Sur fire.  100% of your gift will go toward those who have lost homes and property in the fire.  Your donation is the greatest source of support to those in need right now, and is tax deductible. Thank you!

Purchase TICKETS now as this monthly dinner has sold out 10 months in a row!
$35 for adults (plus please consider a $20 or $50 donation) $15 for kids.  
A special $30 Discount Ticket is available for:
- Students/Military/Sand City residents with ID.
- Big Sur residents and Esalen Staff & Family.

FOOD: All courses will be served 'family style' on platters to be shared + devoured by friends new and old, so bring a social spirit!  

HAPPY HOUR- Come at 5PM to grab a glass of wine from De Tierra Wineyards or a beer from Post No Bills, claim your seat, and settle into the evening- appetizers served at 6PM!

MUSIC:  Jonah & The Whale Watchers!

PLACE:  The Indy Building 600 Ortiz Ave Sand City. Imagine the expansive white interior of the Independent Art Gallery alive with a social seating of folks all enjoying a sequence of appetizers, main dish & desserts provided by the most progressive food artisans from Monterey to Santa Cruz.  Hung on the walls a series of posters illustrates the future of The Independent Marketplace-  come see the plans for this emerging food hub!

15 BEERS on tap and HUNDREDS of bottles from 'Post No Bills' ample selection is available for purchase. Come experience for yourself why Monterey Weekly voted Post No Bills 'Best Selection of Beers' in the county!

WINES will be poured by the glass by De Tierra Vineyards from !  
Visit the wine bar upon arrival to grab a glass and talk with Anna Russell.  She'll surely invite you to their cozy Tasting Room in downtown Carmel!   Kids can enjoy a sparkling grape juice pressed from their grapes as a non-alcoholic treat!

APPETIZER
Salad of Esalen garden lettuces, herbs, sprouted lentils and beet kvass
Esalen bakeshop sourdough rye toast
Slow-cooked Esalen garden fennel
Esalen garden carrot caponata
Esalen garden radishes with herb pesto

ENTREE
Esalen garden kimchi stew
Heirloom beans & Esalen garden chard with local line-caught fish
World famous Esalen garden kale salad with braised Swank Farm Kubocha squash

DESSERT
Coffee- Big Sur Mobile Cafe, Della Moran
Assorted Biscotti & Compost Cookies!
*  The compost cookies are great cause it's a chewy, crispy, fluffy cookie, then when you look closer; you see broken up bits of pretzels, potato chips, other cookies, maybe stuff you haven't seen since you were a kid. And there's coffee grounds. Every cookie is it's own delicious little mess, and the salty bits are the best.
