VIVA el Mariachi Femenil! LOS ANGELES- Celebrates Mariachi Women 1903-2014
Enjoy a spectacular evening of mariachi music with 2014 Grammy Winner,2009 Grammy winner, and five time Grammy Nominee, MARIACHI DIVAS DE CINDY SHEA, joined by Latin Grammy Nominee, the mariachi-trained TRIO ELLAS. Two exciting and recent additions to this line-up are New York's Mariachi Flor de Toloache!and Mexican Songstress Dinorah Curkendall founder of Mariachi Las Alondras. They will take to the stage of the historic San Gabriel Mission Playhouse to perform a passionate and memorable concert that will pay tribute to the pioneering Mexican and American women of mariachi music 1903-2014.

Among special guests will be Mariachi Pioneers Francis and Margarita Angulo, members of Mexico's first all-female group founded in 1948, Adela y Su Mariachi de Muchachas, as well as other women pioneers of mariachi music. Come learn about the first American all-female mariachi group that was formed in 1967 and performed until 1983. Enjoy mariachi music and the stories of these pioneering women.

Arrive early and enjoy the outdoor free pre-concert performances by the beautiful fountain in front of the playhouse from 5:00-7:00pm by the youth group Mariachi Rosas del Valle from Central California and UCLA's Mariachi Femenil de UCLATLAN.  No host beer and wine bar. If you are a mariachi woman or mariachi girl, wear your traje and be recognized!

Drop by the Glass Room at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse and see the FREE Viva el Mariachi Femenil! exhibit which will open for the month of March on March 2, 2014 and on the day of the concert from 10:00am to 6:00pm.  Curated by Dr. Leonor Xochitl Perez, this exhibit unveils research, photographs, documents, artifacts, videos and personal interviews about the pioneering women of mariachi music.
