Description
The TAGI Ensemble dares to be really different. Very few other groups combine piano, violin, clarinet and cello. This unique instrumentation enables the group to be extremely flexible in their repertoire. They perform both classical and contemporary music, presenting trios, duos, and even solo pieces with equal aplomb. Each member of the ensemble is a polished soloist as well.
They will play a great program on February 8: Faure-Violin Sonata #1 in A Major; Schoenfield-Trio for Violin, Clarinet and Piano; Shostakovich-Trio #1 op. 8; Brahms-Trio in A minor, op.114
Formerly known as New York Lyric Chamber Players, TAGI takes its name from the three Russian musicians: Tatiana  Goncharova, piano; Grigory Kalinovsky, violin; and Igor Begelman, clarinet. The cellist is Sophie Shao, a native of Houston, Texas. The ensemble has toured North and South America, Europe, Japan, South Korea, Russia and Israel. They have appeared at innumerable summer festivals and on many media shows for NPR, PBS, New York's WQXR, Japanese and Israeli networks. They have recorded for Centaur records  and teach at various schools. For more information see www.tagiensemble.com
