Care Indeed's Christmas Giving Party 12/19/2013
When Typhoon Haiyan, known in the Philippines as Yolanda, struck last November 8, it flattened entire towns, destroyed homes, layered debris over roads, knocked airports out of commission and shattered families. The magnitude of this super typhoon is unimaginable. It was 3.5 times more ferocious than Hurricane Katrina.

The death toll is horrific and continues to rise. Many live without knowing if loved ones survived the storm; hundreds of thousands are living in the open and starving. Amid survival and struggle, grief and hunger dominate. Relief efforts are faced with either collecting bodies or distributing food. Desperation and lawlessness have increased. And recovery will be long.

Vanessa and I, and most of our dedicated caregivers, are Filipinos. To help the victims of Typhoon Haiyan, we will celebrate Care Indeed's Christmas party on December 19th in a slightly different way. The venue is at JCC-Jewish Community 3921 Fabian Way. Palo Alto, Ca. 94306. Here are the details:

Each attendee will have to buy a ticket for $20; you may pay by check (payable to Care Indeed) or credit card. Your generous donation will help survivors meet their basic needs and begin rebuilding their lives after this disaster. All proceeds of this event will benefit the victims of Typoon Haiyan. Care Indeed will send a representative to Tacloban City, the hardest hit city, to hand over our cash donation. We will document the trip and post pictures on our Social Media accounts.

Greg Kinkaid wrote, "No matter how much falls on us, we keep plowing ahead. That's the only way to keep the roads clear." The Filipinos are unbelievably resilient and own an indomitable human spirit. And with help pouring in from around the world, including our own, they will rise from this tragedy.

Sincerely,

Dee Bustos
