Woody Pines w/ Hard Swimmin' Fish, presented by Dancing Beagle Events
No stranger to fans of the new folk music coming from all corners of the USA. Alongside artists like Old Crow Medicine Show and Pokey LaFarge, Woody continues to forage thru the secret world of old 78s and to write new chapters in the Anthology of American Music. Integrating sounds from Leadbelly to Bob Dylan, from Woodie Guthrie to Preservation Hall, Woody Pines belts out songs of fast cars, pretty women and hard luck with a distinctive vintage twang.
The Woody Pines sound is completed with Shawn Supra slapping away on the upright bass, Brad Tucker on electrified hollow-body guitar and backing vocals, Joe Giotta on stripped down drums and Woody on Resonator Guitar, Harmonica and Lead vocals. They have logged over 7800 miles in there van last year, even with two trips to the UK and Ireland (where there independently released, 'Counting Alligators' was #7 on the Americana Charts).
HARD SWIMMIN' FISH
Hard Swimmin' Fish is a blues quartet that has been making music together for over fifteen years. The band plays a range of styles covering the country blues of Mississippi and The Piedmont, the urban blues of Chicago, and funk infused varieties with roots in New Orleans' second line. This versatility allows Hard Swimmin' Fish to offer either acoustic or electric performances and play any venue.
The juxtaposition of old and new is also evident in both the band members and their play-list. The playing and singing of guitarist/vocalist Demian Lewis is deeply rooted in traditional styles and is powered by the sophisticated rhythms of drummer Jason Walker, and the virtuosity of bassist Randy Ball. Together they churn out a vibrant combination of originals, rearranged traditional material, and recognizable standards.
