A Night of Hope
The idea for a 'Night of Hope' came to me recently after helping a close childhood friend of mine stand up and leave an abusive relationship that she had been caught in for years. With the help of just a few of her friends, and small family, we encouraged her, believed in her and got her out. But then what? Where does a woman with two kids go when she has no money, no car, no job or a safe space to live?
That's where Becky's House comes in! This wonderful program not only provides immediate shelter for families in need, but they also offer a long list of services and therapies which are designed to end the cycle of abuse and truly help each person connect with the healthy, loving life they so deserve.
I BELIEVE IN BECKY'S HOUSE and I want to do whatever I can to help them. So we are throwing a concert! :)
WHEN AND WHERE:
The event will be held at Caffe Calabria in North Park, San Diego, CA on November 18th - yes it's a Monday, so what else do you have going on? :0)
There will also be a silent auction of various items and services available to bid on starting at 6:30 pm. Show starts at 7:30pm and the event is all ages. (Specials on wine and hors d'oeuvres plates will be made available for purchase).
ABOUT THE MUSIC: This night will feature performances by the Steph Johnson Trio, with Rob Thorsen on upright bass and Fernando Gomez on drums. As well as very special performances by Yve Evans, a world-class performer and artist who is coming to San Diego just for this appearance!
Yve Evans is an outstanding Singer and Pianist; there is an intangible quality in her music that gives it a life of its own - life that reaches out and touches the souls of the people that hear it. Evans has performed all around the world including Japan, Canada, Spain and Italy. Evans has played with some of the greats in jazz and cut five CD's. (All done live and in only one take the way jazz was meant to be!). The title of her latest CD sums up her style "3 Degrees Celsius - not frozen, just very cool". Evans the pianist, has leaned over the shoulders of, swapped chord changes with and stolen licks from Dorothy Donegan, Bill Evans, Erroll Garner, George Gafney, Carmen McCrae and Shirley Horn. Yes, Yve is the real thing and one of my great teachers on this journey through music.
"Steph Johnson is an amazing musician," says iconic jazz guitarist Peter Sprague. "What a voice: super soulful and the color of her sound is rich and engaging. I love that she's going full-out playing jazz and playing great guitar, too. Her spirit as a person -- super fun and spontaneous -- brings her whole gift to the planet together. She's a hero!"
We sincerely hope you will join us and be a part of a really fun evening of friends and music and LOTS of smiling and more. :)
