Vegetarian Tamale Making Classes 2014
Due to the success of our tamale classes and the generosity of our volunteers, we able to respond to the requests to hold a vegetarian tamale class! Now is your chance to learn how to make tamales from a master tamalera!
Vegetarian Tamale Class are held on select Saturdays from 10 AM - 12:30 PM. We currently have 2014 classes scheduled for March 29th, May 31st, August 30th, October 25th and December 6th.
Class fee: $75 per person per class - includes recipe and one dozen uncooked tamales. Class fees go to support our Senior Nutrition & Wellness Program that provides balanced daily congregate meals, daily social and educational activities, exercise classes three times a week, and delivered meals to homebound seniors each week.
Class will begin promptly at 10:00 AM in the kitchen at El Centro de la Raza. All cooking supplies and ingredients will be provided, but please bring your own apron.
The class focuses on the traditional preparation of two types of authentic veggie tamales: Cheese & Jalapenos and Vegan Mole and Potato wrapped in banana leaf. The tamales are prepared in the handmade and traditional fashion using cultural ingredients. You'll also enjoy a brief presentation of the history of tamales.
Location: El Centro de la Raza 2524 16th Ave S (in kitchen on ground floor).
