Mark Growden Singing Workshop

Center for Sex &Culture
San Francisco, CA

Embodied Singing Workshop w/ Mark Growden
Tuesdays, January 6 -27, 2009
Cost: $100 for the series

If the eyes are the window to the soul, it is the voice from which the soul blooms.  Each of us has a unique voice inside us waiting to be released.  Just as Michelangelo chiseled away the excess to reveal his masterpiece La Pieta which he believed to be imprisoned in the raw stone, we will sing songs, play games and do exercises to remove the blocks that keep us from singing from our soul.

Join San Francisco's Mark Growden for a 4-week singing workshop emphasizing the release of fear, the expansion of the heart and the liberation that singing brings.  No prior musical or singing experience required.

Mark Growden is a composer, multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, visual artist, educator, and father based in San Francisco, CA.  He has toured the U.S. for years performing at venues such as the Fillmore and Great American Music Hall in S.F. and Tonic and The Knitting Factory in New York. He has released several critically acclaimed albums.  Growden has composed original musical scores for a number of Dance and Theater companies including Joe Goode Performance Group, The Crucible's Fire Odyssey, and Alonzo King's Lines Contemporary Ballet with whom he won the Isadora Duncan Award for Best Original Score for a New Dance Piece.  Growden has also scored several films including "Blood Tea and Red String" which won Best Animation at the San Francisco Independent Film Festival and at the Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal.  He has taught music at a number of schools such as Urban High School, Park Day School, International High School, French American International School and Drake High School.  He is currently the music teacher at Creative Arts Charter Middle School and Clarendon Elementary. Resume aside, Growden is deeply committed to serving this world and the beings that occupy it with the expression of the divine through the arts whether it be singing, painting, composing, riding a bike, or taking out the garbage.
