2014 Women in Agriculture Conference - Saturday, March 15, 2014

"Change Happens: Make It An Opportunity"

Join us for the third annual Women in Agriculture Conference

"Change Happens: Make It An Opportunity" is the theme for the 2014 Women in Agriculture Conference.  This one-day event will be held simultaneously in 28 locations throughout Idaho, Oregon and Washington.

This is a "must attend" for all women agriculture producers who want to participate in a 3-state agriculture conference offering inspirational speakers, inspiring stories and practical advice on how to improve your farm management skills. Learn more about farm business decision making, how to use financial records to improve the bottom line and connect with other women producers.

Last year nearly 500 women heard practical advice on how to meet the challenges of everyday farming and manage the risks of their operation. Many attendees reported it was one of the best conferences for women farmers because it was practical information they could use right away.  It made a difference in the ways they handled their finances, communicated with other businesses, organized their day, networked with other women and improved their business operation.

Handling change is a big part of the farming business - it does not matter if you are a wheat farmer, raising livestock, managing a CSA or growing fruits & vegetables - change happens! It could be an opportunity to expand, hiring new employees, quitting your day job to farm full time, starting a family, raising grandchildren, transitioning into or out of organic, bringing family members into the operation, developing new marketing methods and the list goes on and on.

Our keynote speaker, Heather Darby, is a 7th generation owner of The Darby Farm in the Lake Champlain Islands near Alburgh, Vermont. The Darby Farm has provided agriculture products for over 200 years.  This 130-acre diversified farm produces a wide array of vegetables and fruit, has a small apiary, CSA program, farm stand and operates a custom-grazing service for local organic dairies.

Heather will describe the strategies she uses to make her farming decisions.  Change has been a constant in her operation with financial issues, organizational management, employees, starting a family and handling risk management issues related to weather, prices and work-life balance.

At each conference location three local women producers will also talk about their experiences with change. Networking opportunities will be great!

If you have been farming for several years, a new farmer or an aspiring farmer, this conference has something for you. If you are a supporting spouse, student, intern or own an agriculture related business, make plans to attend this event.

The conference registration fee includes the workshop, light breakfast, lunch, handouts and a book.
