Christina Gesualdi - our nebulous motor
Mascher's a microfestival of stubborn occasions presents: our nebulous motor
AND on Sunday evening at 9PM Christina will perform: my nebulous solo

///PERFORMANCE DETAILS///

Christina Gesualdi presents our nebulous motor, a performative installation in the fire escape hallway of Mascher.  Droney-drone. float-y float...it's a torpedo drifting.  Submerged shifts bubble up in this experiential-mashed-potatoes-of-a-piece.  Performed by Christina Gesualdi and Alice Yorke, this duet takes place in a gritty pocket of space.  Come prepared to get close, get what you need, and stay warm in the chilled hallway.   This piece has a respect for time, the kind of time it takes for earlobes to get ancient and droopy.

When the work-in progress was performed in June, audience member and fellow choreographer Annie Wilson noted, "Christina's work manages to do something truly magical: to make everything boring, and then everything interesting, and then make the dancers' bodies interesting, and then boring, and then your own bodily experience interesting, and then boring.  About halfway through her work everything you look at, think about, touch, see, or smell, is fascinating."

Also featuring live performance by Gus Gscheidle and a sound score by Sean Hamilton.

/// 11/17 my nebulous solo description///

Christina will process, digest, and absorb "our nebulous motor".  With lower than low production values: a taped out square in Mascher's main space, an online interval timer, and some wacko props, the piece is provoked by questions about muscle memory, performative recall, and irreverent deconstruction.  It is like an experiential flea market of "our nebulous motor" detritus.  It is short.  You will get your head held on a Sunday evening.

///PERFORMER BIOS///

Christina Gesualdi is a Philly based artist who dips into dance by, first and foremost, making it at Mascher Space Co-op.  She makes experiential work that researches a certain softness and imaginative off-ness in the body.  Christina also does admin/production work for Mascher, <fidget>, and other local dance and theater companies.  From the dreamy conceptual stuff to the nitty gritty fine-tuning, she loves working in the Philly dance community because there is room to propose, absorb, and celebrate nuanced ideas.  Christina has performed with Nicole Bindler, Meg Foley, Annie Wilson & Julius Masri, Melisa Putz, and Zornitsa Stoyanova - [Here]begin Dance.  She has shown her choreography in Philly, New York, Washington D.C., and Taipei.  Christina also teaches yoga and GRE prep.

Alice Yorke is a recent graduate of the Pig Iron School for Advanced Performance Training and has appeared in Philadelphia in BRAT Productions' A is for Anaconda and Groundswell Players' Fringe hit, Hackles. Alice has performed with the Hudson Shakespeare Company, LaMama Moves! Dance Festival, Bushwick Open Studios Festival, and Midtown International Theatre Festival. She studied and performed with Double Edge Theatre in the Berkshires and internationally with Friches Théâtre Urbain in Paris. This fall she performed with Pig Iron in their LiveArts production of PayUp.

///a microfestival of stubborn occasions///

a microfestival of stubborn occasions is a weekend of full-length performances by Mascher's artists in residence: Christina Gesualdi, Gregory Holt, and Marcel W. Foster.  Gesualdi will present our nebulous motor, a dance installation duet in Mascher's fire escape hallway in which the density of time becomes palpable.  Holt's piece Centurion is a solo, an epic feat on an individual scale.  #JaneGoodallDrama is a drag-parody interactive performance by Marcel W. Foster of Jane Goodall, the infamous primatologist and researcher with whom he worked for five years.  The microfestival as a whole is a space where choreography is given permission to exist in the in-betweens.  It is more than the sum of its parts. As a microcosm of Mascher, Christina, Gregory, and Marcel ask, "how can our processes exist alongside each other as we, as researchers and makers, slip deeper into our own distinct approaches: somatic, theoretical, theatrical?"    With the Festival Pass, you can affordably experience all three performances (a micro-vacation perhaps?); we intentionally invite shifts of perception from performance to performance.

///Mascher Space Co-op///

Mascher Space Co-op is a home for new dance in Philadelphia. Artist imagined, artist founded, artist shared and run, Mascher provides space that is affordable and versatile. We are a community of support that cultivates a flow of ideas and modes of deep problem solving and inquiry. Bound not by aesthetics, but a common commitment to working cooperatively and sharing administrative tasks and resources, Mascher wildly nurtures the development of its Artists-In-Residence at various stages in their careers, lines of research, and explorations.
