"Hey pal, feeling blue? Don't know what to do? Hey pal, I mean you - yeah! Come here, and kill a President."
This November 22nd marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of beloved American president John F. Kennedy by unbeloved gunman Lee Harvey Oswald.
In honor of our country's history (and what happens when we forget it), this November 21st and 22nd the Musical Theatre Club at Purchase College presents to you Assassins, a Sondheim musical about the terrific and terrifying men and women of our great nation who tried to kill the President of the United States.
~ WHAT'S THIS SHOW ABOUT? ~
Bold, original, disturbing, and alarmingly funny, Assassins (composed by Stephen Sondheim and with book by John Weidman) is perhaps the most controversial musical ever written.
This most American of musicals lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinated or tried to assassinate the President of the United States, in a one-act historical "revusical" that explores the dark side of the American experience. From John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald, writers Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman bend the rules of time and space, taking us on a nightmarish roller coaster ride in which assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of the American Dream.
