The COCOA TANGO EXTRAVAGANZA is the "first of its kind" tango event in Brevard County Florida. The event is comprised of two evening concerts (Friday, January 23rd and Saturday, 24th of 2009) providing live Argentine Tango music performed by the "Mandragora Tango Orchestra" at the Cocoa Civic Center located in Old Cocoa Village, Cocoa, Florida. Plus, at each performance, there will be open seating (for concert attendees), dance floors in place(for guests that wish to dance to live and DJ'd music), and a complimentary food buffet for everyone, as well as, a cash bar for beverages.
Friday, January 23, 2009, Mandragora will perform a 45 minute sit-down concert beginning at 8:00 p.m. This performance will focus on the "history of tango music" using a chronological order and a few words about each piece performed. After a short DJ break, the quartet will return to provide 2 more sets for dancing to live music.
On Saturday, January 24, 2009,there will be workshops provided by Bob Barnes of Mandragora. He will be teaching at 10:30 a.m. "Tango History", and at 1:00 p.m. "Dancing in the Music". These workshops are likely to be of interest to musicians, as well as dancers.
Mandragora Tango Orchestra (www.mandragoratango.com)is a vibrant collective of tango musicians based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, dedicated to preserving the nearly-lost musical forms of tango and translating them for today's listeners and dancers. This small tango ensemble was founded in 2001 and consist of Bob Barnes on accordion and bandoneon, Laura Harasa on violin, Scott Mateo Davies on guitar, and Rahn Yanes on bass. "Let's Have Dinner and Go Dancing With Mandragora Tango" is their latest released CD and is a collection of tangos, vals (waltzes) and milongas (2-steps). Their music ranges from rollicking guardia vieja (old style) tangos to lush epocha d'ora (golden age) ones.

Throughout her life she also danced the roots of her Brazilian culture including Samba, Forro, Gafieira, Lambada and many other street styles. In more recent years she has found her passion in street dancing which includes Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Guajira, Cha Cha Cha, and Tango Argentino. Van Stickle, a native of Cocoa, Florida, operates the "el Tigre Academy of Argentine Tango" in Cocoa, Florida. He spent several weeks in Buenos Aires, Argentina, learning how to dance Argentine tango over a decade ago and has never stopped. Van continues to perfect his technique by seeking out other accomplished tango dancers and workshops to continue improving his technique. The proof of Van's talent and commitment to Argentine tango is demonstrated by the growing number of his students who have learned the necessary basic techniques to confidently dance tango successfully with anyone, anywhere. He currently teaches private lessons, as well as weekly group lessons and practicas. He sponsors a weekly milonga at his studio. Van (and various partners) has performed publicly in a variety of venues. His efforts to introduce Argentine tango to the public have resulted in continually increasing the number of people who are getting excited, involved, and having fun in the tango community located in Eastern Central Florida.
Saturday, January 24, 2009, Mandragora will also perform a 45 minute sit-down concert beginning at 8:00 p.m. This performance will feature the music of Astor Piazolla followed by 2 dance sets and plenty of DJ'd tango.
