Urbanity Dance presents: "The Sun Queen"
Urbanity Dance, voted Boston's Best Dance Company 2012 by The Improper Bostonian, announces its fall revue, The Sun Queen. Choreographed by Urbanity's founder and director, Betsi Graves, along with four members of Urbanity's company, this dazzling interactive dance performance will take place at six different locations in the South End of Boston. This year's revue will be deviating from the storyline of the past two years, with brand new choreography and characters that takes us into the future.
Dancers today know the historical founder of classical dance as we know it was King Louis XIV, "The Sun King" and The Sun Queen will follow the journey of the next dance legend. Urbanity's show will ask questions such as, when will the next dance royal arrive? Will she dance as we know or will she come up with a dance vocabulary all her own? Each of the rooms takes place at a certain point along The Sun Queen's emotional and physical growth from birth to womanhood
The revue is set up in such a way that encourages audience interaction and challenges the boundaries of a traditional artistic performance. Led by improvisational dancers, groups of twenty audience members will travel to the six different locations in and around SoWa. This unique layout brings the audience physically closer to the dancers and makes them a part of The Sun Queen's journey.
