CHICAGO - Cave Painting Theater Company is excited to present the winter comedy The Dark is Light Enough, by Christopher Fry, as the first production in its 2013/2014 season. The production will
run November 21st through December 7th at Rivendell Theater in Edgewater. The Dark is Light Enough is directed by Cave Painting Theater's Artistic Director Gwendolyn Masterton. The production features Bob Gerics as Richard Gettner,  Shawn Morgenlander as Gelda and Beth Kelly as Countess Rosmarin Ostenburg, the countess with a heart of gold. The Dark is Light Enough embodies Cave Painting Theater's endeavor to promote honesty, empathy and communication in the human community.

THE PLAY
Set in an Austrian country house during the winter of 1848-49 during an uprising of the Hungarians against their Austrian rulers. The play is concerned with the impact this rebellion has on the inhabitants of the house. Foremost of them is the countessan eminent lady of independence, wit, compassion and honesty. At the bottom of the heap is a highly intelligent scoundrel with no character at all. Apart from several other well-drawn people, representing either amusing worldliness or earnest convictions, the play concentrates on the ordeal of the countess' conscience. Although she is above petty acrimonies, although she overflows with forgiveness, she is grievously hurt by the callousness of the scoundrel's unprincipled behavior and works to redeem the scoundrel, by any means necessary.

The Dark is Light Enough premiered at the Aldwych Theatre in London, England, in May of 1954 and ran on Broadway from February 23, 1955 to April 23, 1955. Although it has been decades since its premiere the play's themes of political oppression, humanity's embracing of hope and the beauty of love still rings true in our society and provides audiences with a story they are able to relate to.
