Glory of Christmas
Audiences at this year's Glory of Christmas concerts will hear some of the greatest choral music ever written for the holidays, sung in a place that captures both the joy and the majesty of the season. For our 40th Season, Portland's First United Methodist Church is such a place and our home for this year's four concerts.
Glory of Christmas begins with Anton Bruckner's majestic Virga Jesse Floruit, Arvo Part's haunting setting of the Magnificat and Portland native Morten Lauridsen's world-famous setting of the O Magnum Mysterium. The second half of the concert features traditional carols, including O Holy Night, Angels We Have Heard on High, Joy to the World, Coventry Carol, and two pieces by Oregon Repertory Singers amazing accompanist, Naomi LaViolette. And as is tradition we will be singing Franz Biebl's magnificent Ave Maria.
