MOMENTUM, Impulse and Collisions
Project606 Dance returns to Ballroom Dance Chicago for two evenings of sensational and invigorating dance!

MOMENTUM, Impulse and Collisions, a trilogy of dance! MOMENTUM is the first of three performances in Project606 Dance's 5th season.  Each concert will center around one of the before mentioned concepts, and this first show will explore the idea of momentum.
In its purest definition, Momentum = Mass x Velocity.  How can we as dancers explore this physical concept?
While momentum exists as an ever present tool for dancers, the physicality of momentum can be expressed in countless ways.  For instance, how many ways can we generate momentum within our own bodies?  How does that generated momentum transfer energy from one dancer to the next?  Using repetition as a tool, the dancers repeat a specific movement continually until the buildup of momentum causes the body to generate a new pathway, thus creating a new movement.

MOMENTUM will consist of three works two of which are world premieres! The first is choreographed by Jenny DeMuth, the Resident Choreographer for Project606 Dance and is influenced by primitive dance forms.  The other, choreographed by Artistic Director, Meghann Mueller, has been inspired the exploration of social movement theories. What triggers and grows a social movement?  What action or event is needed to spark a larger call for action? Specifically provoked by recent events in India, which have brought the mistreatment of Indian women to a larger audience.

The final piece is a selection from the evening length work, Fixed In One Long Gaze, which was first debuted at Stage773 in 2012 and was presented at the 2013 Minnesota Fringe Festival.  Project606 Dance was warmly received in Minnesota and Fixed In One Long Gaze received much praise,
"A conceptually intriguing, aesthetically elegant . . . sublime exploration of the shifting and sometimes simultaneous relationship between object and image, sound and echo, cause and effect . . ."
-Aseem Kaul, 2013 Minnesota Fringe
